A great indoor activity for anxious dogs is to wear a leash indoors part of the day. Our staff will often attach a leash on our guest dogs while house sitting to keep a puppy from chewing or marking in the home.

Timid and reactive dogs should always wear a collar or harness indoors to have something to grab during times of high anxiety or aggression. Attach leash to your waist and guide your dog around the house while doing daily activities. Following you on leash in the house creates a job for your dog and helps him relax faster around you. This will help keep your dog’s attention focused on you and improve outdoor walks.
Using a leash indoors is also helpful when meeting new guests as they walk in the door. Your do may have “Stranger Danger” whenever a new person rings the doorbell. Bring your dog behind you and step on the leash with your foot before opening the door. Step on the leash with your foot will help keep your dog from jumping on your guests.
If you are meeting a family member then meet them outside while stepping on the leash. Only bring the dog inside after he is relaxed walking alongside the family member. Each family member should take turns leading your dog outside then through the house for a few minutes.
