Going through a pocketful of treats to reward Kailani playing tug and catch at the park.
This past week we have been having solo walks so I took her to Del Mar Shores Park to play catch with tennis balls then tug games with ball on a rope.
Kailani is eager to please people and will ask to play by sniffing the toy and wagging her tail. Ball on a Rope tug games are fun because I can keep her engaged during walks while passing other dogs or throwing it to catch and retrieve. We can practice holding and biting the toy, releasing the tug, catching it, then returning back to me for a reward.
Food is very important to Kailani and having a treat in my hand is too distracting for her to keep a toy in her mouth. I will usually trade a treat for her to drop the ball until I can throw it again. Then I wait for Kailani to return with the toy before reaching for another treat.
