So proud of Emmy Lou on our Canine Cafe visit to Cross Street Chicken. Cross Street in Del Mar Highlands has a dog friendly patio area separate from inside dining; so we brought Emmy Lou from the Pittie Party and she was such a well behaved dog during the entire visit.

Emmy Lou was the only dog there when we arrived but got comfortable under the table. She is the least reactive dog of her pack and is really receptive to food. Emmy Lou is also easy to lure so I had a bag of treats with me to keep her in place. Cross Street gave her a water bowl and she didn’t leave her place under the table even when other dogs arrived for lunch.
The second dog that entered was an adult Golden Retriever that smiled and pulled on his leash in an effort to meet Emmy but gave up when the owner pulled back. Emmy decided she really didn’t want to share her treats and moved to the other side of our table and both dogs relaxed for a few minutes while we ordered.
The third dog to enter was a senior brown lab mix that roamed around tugging at the leash tied to the chair before curling up in a ball next to his owner. Emmy realized that none of the dogs were going to meet and kept asking for treats instead.
This was a great chance for enrichment in a neutral territory away from her regular pack or family. It felt like all of the repetitions of practicing sit and place before our walks and visiting public settings around other dogs were effective. Contact us if you think canine cafe visits, destination walks, or structured games would be helpful for your dog. We are also available for adventure hikes, drop in visits, dog walking and pet sitting in Del Mar, Solana Beach, Rancho Santa Fe and Carmel Valley.
