Ball Games at Del Mar Shores Park

Writer: Del Mar Dog LifeDel Mar Dog Life

We made a trip this week to Del Mar Shores Park and Hot Chocolate Cocoa can still jump and catch the ball. Cocoa is an 8 year old Chesapeake Retriever. He walks very calmly past the cafes but is happy to move when we get to a grassy field.

While we don’t usually go to dog parks, we will often walk past the field at Del Mar Shores Park behind the community center. The field is usually empty in the afternoon and has recently added a new fence to keep dogs from running away. Off leash hours are restricted to mornings until 8:30 am and again after 3:30 pm. On leash dogs are still welcome any other time except during school activities or baseball games.

Leashes were required during our visit and I kept a 10 foot leash attached to Cocoa even though we were the only dog at the park. Playing catch is much easier with a long leash because you can always pull your dog back when he decides to keep the ball. Cocoa did not have any problems catching the tennis ball and was happy to return it for treats.

Contact us if your dog can benefit from structured ball games. We are available for adventure hikes, drop in visits, dog walking and petsitting in Del Mar, Solana Beach, Rancho Santa Fe and Carmel Valley.
